Dear Fellow Members:
I am pleased to inform you of the Club’s hiring of Mr. Larry Marx, who will serve as the Interim General Manager of The University Club of Washington, DC, effective September 19, 2023. The Board of Governors has engaged Larry, who has earned a well-deserved reputation as one of most talented club managers in the country. Please see Larry’s enclosed bio for more information about him. Larry will leverage his deep experience with other private clubs to help us to continue to develop and maintain best practices to improve our club, working with the Board and our skilled and experienced staff to continue to implement the strategic plan that the Board discussed during our Annual Meeting in April. The key objectives of that plan are:
- Continue development of a long-term sustainable financial path for the Club, building upon our improved results in 2022-23.
- Provide members with a superior level of service.
- Improve and modernize governance and management.
- Invest in our Clubhouse to improve the member experience.
Larry is known for effective team building and enhancing the employee experience at clubs he has led as General Manager. We expect him to manage the Club for the next six months and to help us search for a permanent replacement during that time. Larry is a highly talented club manager with over 30 years of experience at some of the nation's top private clubs. He now works exclusively as a consulting Interim GM and COO of private clubs and was successfully engaged most recently by the Bohemian Club in San Francisco. Larry comes highly recommended by many employers and is well-known throughout the club industry.
We wish to thank and recognize Brian Donohoe for his service to the University Club. Brian has served for almost seven years on our management team, first as Assistant General Manager, starting in 2017, then as Interim General Manager and as our GM over the last three years. He helped see us through many of the daunting challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and the initial rebuilding and rehiring of staff that followed it. We are grateful and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
The next time you are in the Clubhouse, please welcome Larry to our University Club community. Sincerely, |
